Truck Bed Tent for F-150 and Ranger: Size by Cab

F-150 beds measure 67.1, 78.9, or 97.6 in inside; the 2024+ Ranger is 59.6 in, the 2019-23 Ranger 61 or 72.8 in. Match that number to the tent maker's size range.

The right truck bed tent for an F-150 or Ranger is decided by one number: the inside length of the bed at the floor, measured with the tailgate up. Ford publishes it. The F-150’s three boxes measure 67.1 inches (5.5 ft), 78.9 inches (6.5 ft), and 97.6 inches (8 ft); the Lightning only comes with the 67.1 inch box. The 2024 and newer Ranger has one bed, 59.6 inches, and the 2019 to 2023 Ranger had 61 inches on the SuperCrew and 72.8 on the SuperCab. Put that number against the tent maker’s range: a 5.5 ft F-150 takes a “full size short bed” tent, a 6.5 ft box takes “full size regular,” an 8 ft box takes “full size long,” and every Ranger takes a “compact” or “mid-size” tent, short for the 5 ft bed and regular for the 6 ft. The confusing part is that each maker draws its ranges a little differently, which is what the table below sorts out.

Ford’s bed lengths by cab configuration

From Ford’s 2026 F-150 specification sheet: the Regular Cab comes with the 6.5 or 8 ft box, the SuperCab with the 6.5 ft box only, and the SuperCrew with the 5.5 or 6.5 ft box (Tremor and Raptor are 5.5 only; the Raptor’s box is 67.2 inches). Inside length at the floor is 67.1, 78.9, and 97.6 inches for the three boxes; width between the wheelhouses is 50.6 inches on all of them, and inside height is 21.4 inches. The 2023 Lightning sheet lists a SuperCrew with a 5.5 ft bed only, 67.1 inches long and 50.6 between the wheelhouses.

The current Ranger (2024 and later) is SuperCrew only with a 5 ft bed: 59.6 inches at the floor, 48.2 inches between the wheelhouses, 62.4 inches at its widest, 20.6 inches deep. The 2019 to 2023 Ranger was offered as a SuperCrew with a 61 inch bed or a SuperCab with a 72.8 inch bed, both 44.8 inches between the wheelhouses. Older Rangers (1983 to 2012) are a different, narrower truck, and Rightline still lists a dedicated compact size for them.

How the makers size their tents

Napier’s Backroadz (19 series) and Sportz (57 series) come in five sizes and the ranges are explicit: full size long 8 ft to 8 ft 2 in, full size regular 6 ft 4 in to 6 ft 7 in, full size short 5 ft 5 in to 5 ft 8 in (the Sportz short goes to 5 ft 10 in), compact regular 6 ft to 6 ft 3 in, and compact short 5 ft to 5 ft 2 in. Napier says to measure with the tailgate closed and use the tent with it open. Rightline Gear’s sizing guide uses nominal lengths only (8, 6.5, 5.5, 6, and 5 ft) and tells you to pick the closest, with separate “tall bed” versions of its 5 and 6 ft mid-size tents for the 2019 and newer Ranger. Kodiak Canvas sizes by range too: the full-size 7206 fits 5.5 to 6.8 ft beds, the 7218 fits 8 ft beds only, and the mid-size 7211 fits 5 to 6.5 ft beds, all measured inside with the tailgate up.

Which size fits which Ford

F-150 SuperCrew 5.5 ft box and the Lightning (67.1 inches): Napier Backroadz 19033 or Sportz 57890 (full size short), Rightline 110750 (5.5 ft), Kodiak 7206. F-150 with the 6.5 ft box, any cab (78.9 inches): Napier 19022 or 57022 (full size regular), Rightline 110730, Kodiak 7206, which stretches to 6.8 ft. F-150 Regular Cab 8 ft box (97.6 inches): Napier 19011 or 57011 (full size long), Rightline 110710, Kodiak 7218. Ranger 2024 and newer, and the 2019 to 2023 SuperCrew (59.6 and 61 inches): Napier 19066 or 57066 (compact short), Rightline 110766 (5 ft tall bed), Kodiak 7211. Note that the new Ranger’s 59.6 inches is 0.4 inches under Napier’s stated 5 ft floor; retailers list the 57066 as fitting the 2019 to 2026 Ranger and owners on the Ranger forum use the compact short, with one reporting he shortened a pole by about an inch. Ranger 2019 to 2023 SuperCab (72.8 inches): Napier 19044 or 57044 (compact regular), Rightline 110761 (6 ft tall bed), Kodiak 7211. Guide Gear’s full-size tent is sized “79 to 81 inches with the tailgate down” by its resellers, which does not map onto Ford’s tailgate-up numbers; treat it as a 6.5 ft tent and confirm before buying.

Tonneau covers, rails, liners, and toolboxes

This is the question that fills Ford forums. Napier says its tents fit over a roll-up tonneau if the rolled bundle is under 6 inches tall and over bed rails under 3 inches; sport bars must come off; a toolbox stays and the tent goes over it, costing you that length; a camper shell does not work at all (see tents for a truck with a cap). Etrailer’s experts say a hard folding or flip tonneau must be removed for a Rightline tent, because the straps have nowhere to go, and a tri-fold left folded against the cab on a 5.5 ft F-150 leaves about 51 inches, which no tent is sized for. Kodiak’s clamp-on rails need larger aftermarket C-clamps when tonneau rails are in the way. Drop-in and spray-in liners do not change the length and no maker lists them as a problem.

Floor or no floor

Napier’s tents have a sewn-in bathtub floor; Rightline and Kodiak are floorless. A floor means you empty the bed to set up and you sleep on clean fabric; floorless means the tent goes up around whatever is already in the bed and over a toolbox, which overland forum regulars prefer. Floorless also drops the weight: Rightline’s full-size tents weigh 8.7 to 9.7 lb against 15 to 16 for a Backroadz and 23 to 26 for a Sportz. Kodiak’s canvas and 3/4 inch steel frame is the heaviest of the group and the one F-150 owners on the forums call far more durable than the nylon tents.

Bed tents that fit

Napier Backroadz Truck Tent (19 Series)

Five sizes, $200 each, with a sewn-in floor, a 5 ft center height, 15 to 16 lb, and a 28 x 10 x 9 inch pack. The 19033 covers a 5.5 ft F-150 and Lightning, the 19022 a 6.5 ft box, the 19011 an 8 ft box, the 19066 any 5 ft Ranger, and the 19044 the older 6 ft SuperCab Ranger. Check price on Amazon

Napier Sportz Truck Tent (57 Series)

The same five sizes in a heavier build: 5 ft 7 in center height, 23 to 26 lb, a full rain fly, and a rear panel that opens into the cab’s sliding window. The full size short (57890) runs to 5 ft 10 in, so it has more margin on a 5.5 ft F-150 than the Backroadz. Check price on Amazon

Rightline Gear Truck Tent

Floorless and strap-mounted, 8.7 lb in the 5.5 ft size and 9.7 lb in the 8 ft, with a 2000 mm coating and about 4 ft 10 in of headroom. Buy by nominal length (110750, 110730, 110710 for the three F-150 boxes), and for a 2019 or newer Ranger buy the tall-bed 110766 (5 ft) or 110761 (6 ft), not the standard mid-size SKUs. Rightline’s own site has moved under Klymit, so check retailer stock. Check price on Amazon

Kodiak Canvas Truck Bed Tent

Canvas on a steel frame with clamp-on rails, a 5 ft ceiling, no floor, and a lifetime limited warranty. The 7206 (about $550) fits any 5.5 to 6.8 ft full-size bed, so one tent covers both common F-150 boxes; the 7211 (about $500) fits 5 to 6.5 ft mid-size beds and names the Ranger. The 8 ft 7218 was backordered when we checked. Check price on Amazon

What to put under you

All four tents sit on the bed floor, which is ribbed steel or a plastic liner, and none includes padding. A full-size bed is 50.6 inches between the wheelhouses, so a 50 to 52 inch double pad fits an F-150 flat; a Ranger’s 48.2 (or 44.8 on the older truck) wants a 41 inch double or two singles. The widths that fit are in the car camping mattress guide. If your Ford is a Maverick, none of these sizes apply; that bed has its own page, tents for the Ford Maverick bed.
